Picking Up!

It appears that the job market is picking up, especially for telecommuting contract management.  I’ve seen three in as many days (and of course, have applied to them) so I do believe it is picking up.

If a job description reads like my resume, I also submit an application to those in hopes of talking them into (aka, negotiation) letting me take it on in a telecommuting capacity. Sometimes companies don’t understand that they actually get MORE work from an employee who doesn’t have to sit in traffic to get to work.

DOA

After getting home from church yesterday, I changed my clothes so I could go to a HandiQuilter meeting at the dealer where I purchased the Fusion.  They have (approximately) once monthly meetings to cover different topics of interest and yesterday’s interested me: the care and cleaning of your machine.  I was thrilled!

Unfortunately, I was the only one that was juiced up about it– the battery in my car died, apparently, upon my return home.  At least I got home (God is good!)! Considering that I’ve had the car for nearly six years, that’s pretty good battery life, right?  Well, I thought it was…

Brian set about fixing it for me and eventually replaced the battery but I wasn’t able to get to Annapolis for the presentation.  I’ll have to hope that they had some hand-outs that they can save a copy of for me.

Sewing Belles

Yesterday, there were four of us sewing in my dining room– what fun we did have!  Linda brought hand-sewing work, Susan brought a quilt to piece, as did Wanda.  I worked on some charity quilts and started piecing the new bedspread(s) for our bedroom.  Laugh and chuckle and chat all day– it is a blessing to know such joy!

Serenity

After watching several episodes of “Firefly” yesterday, I watched the movie “Serenity” today.  LOVED IT!!  That really is amazing– why did they kill it off?  Because television production companies are stupid!!

Complete Life Now

Yes, indeedy! My life is now complete– I have seen all of the episodes of “Firefly” and now I want to see the “Browncoat” thingy again and, yes, on the agenda is the “Serenity” movie. Can’t wait– totally hooked!

Then again, I’m also totally hooked on “Castle” soooo what am I saying here?

Not much . . .

Unfortunately, there just isn’t much to report and thus, I don’t report much. I’m still looking for a job and I’m still sewing when not looking for a job.

Tomorrow, I’m having friends over to sew. There will be 4 of us as one won’t be able to attend– it seems that there’s always one that has to miss. Anyway, we’ll have breakfast, a trunk show and then get down to the sewing which is the important part.

Can’t wait!

Old Sheet, New Tricks

Apparently, in the “Olden Days”, women would needlepoint or hand embroider bed sheets for summer quilts. My sister received one such thing from my mother although she can’t remember if my Mom said it was stitched by my paternal or maternal grandmother. Sue, my sister, asked if I wanted it and could do anything with it.

Oh, yes! Today, it was loaded on The Rack and I’ve long-arm machined it into magnificent beauty– yes, it was beautiful before but it was THIN! It was just a sheet!! Well, now it’s a quilt and quite a lovely quilt at that!

Then, Brian and I watched more TopGears which is why I sound like Jeremy Clarkson in my head as I describe this to you.

Happy New Year, etc.

Yes, I’m here– just got busy being distracted with the holiday, etc. Hope you had a good one– we did what we wanted to do, as usual.

Other than that, job search continues with little or no success, obviously. I have good phone interviews and then, nothing. Oh, well– if ya throw enough spaghetti at the wall, eventually something will stick!

More of the same tomorrow and over the weekend.

So I got to thinking . . .

I’m currently stitching the binding down on a “for hire” quilt and, as a result, I’m watching television while I hem. “Person of Interest”, “Blue Bloods”, “CSI: NY”, “Law & Order: SVU” and several other television shows are based in New York City. Is it really possible for a city of the size of New York (which I realize is VERY large) to have THAT MUCH intrigue and crime happening all in one day? Seriously? That is one nasty city, if that really is the case, to hang out in because you could be shot/kidnapped/mugged/raped/etc/etc/etc at any moment if it were real. Yeesh! It would really be helpful if the different television series, especially ones on the same networks, would have the same Police Commissioner or Mayor or whatever in each show so that you could begin to believe that there’s some kind of consistency there.

Yeah, I know– I’ve gotta get a job! January is around the corner and one hopes that the interviewing/hiring will begin soon.

Moving on . . .

Tomorrow I have a meeting with the State of Maryland in order for them to coach me on how to find a job. Xerox is paying for one but the state requires me to meet with them to continue my benefits. No problem– I’ll go! I told my other career coach and she was a little miffed but, that’s okay, she’ll get over it. I’ll do whatever I have to do to keep the benefits, but I will take a REAL job to get rid of them! ;>)
